Desi Anwar, Senior Reporter and Anchor of Metro TV, Indonesia’s first
and leading News and Information Channel founded in 2000, after nine years as pioneer Reporter and Anchor for RCTI, Indonesia’s first
nationwide private television channel.
Desi is also currently in the management of Metro TV, Indonesia’s
first and only News and Information television channel providing
specialized programming focusing on current affairs, documentaries and quality entertainment for the discerning and mature audience.
Desi,who helped found the channel in 2000 was producer and anchor of prime time economic talk show ‘Economic Challenges’ on Metro TV as well as General Manager of Marketing and Business Development in charge of developing the company’s business, meeting bottom line target and responding to partners’ and clients’ needs and objectives.
Desi is also responsible for generating concepts and content for the development of on air programs as well as build Metro TV’s and the
client’s brands through strategic partnerships and value added cooperation and activities.
At the moment Desi produces and hosts Face2Face with Desi Anwar, a magazine and talk show program featuring prominent figures from all over the world.
Desi is also an active writer and regular columnist for high quality news magazine Tempo and the English daily newspaper The Jakarta Globe. Desi is also still active as Senior Reporter and was on the scene in Aceh to cover the aftermath of the Tsunami as well as other major international events such as the funeral of the late Pope John Paul II
in the Vatican and life in Baghdad on the eve of the US invasion of Iraq. Desi started out her TV journalism career when she helped found the newsroom as Executive Producer, Anchor and Reporter for Indonesia’s first commercial TV channel RCTI in 1990 and was a member of the presidential press corp, traveling extensively on state visits as well as international summits for many years. Desi also interviewed many prominent international figures during her seventeen years in television. She has won awards as best news anchor and is still nominated for the Panasonic Award these past few years.
Countries and destinations which Desi has visited include: US, Europe (including Eastern Europe such as The Czech Republic, Hungary), Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan), Tunisia, Morocco, South Africa, Namibia, Middle East (Iran, Iraq, Jordan), Asean (incl. Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia), China, Japan, South Korea, India, Egypt, Turkey, Mexico, Colombia and many others.
Domestic travel has covered most part of Indonesia including Papua and (former) East Timor.
Her media training included an internship with UNTV at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City; news director’s training program with CNN International Professional Program in Atlanta, Georgia; East West Centre Senior Journalist Fellowship (Hawaii, the USA).
