FESSY ALWI


Her roots in the legal profession led Fessy Alwi to covering some of country’s most important law and political stories.


The anchor of Metro TV’s “Suara Anda” and “Metro Siang” programs trained to become an attorney, graduating from Airlangga University in Surabaya with a bachelor’s law degree in 2002, and a master’s law degree from the University of Indonesia in 2007.


But television called, and she began her broadcasting career at TVRI Surabaya in 2001.  In 2002, Alwi joined RCTI as a reporter and anchor, and in 2004 she was appointed RCTI’s legal officer.  In 2005, she moved to ANTV as a producer, anchor and reporter, covering the president’s office from 2007-2008.  She joined Metro TV in 2008.


Among her journalistic highlights – covering Aceh under martial law in June 2003; reporting on the funerals of former presidents Soeharto and Abdurrahman Wahid; and coverage of several major criminal trials.


Alwi is a native of Malang in East Java.  She is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and speaks conversational English.  In 2009, she participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, traveling to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta and San Diego.
