The Fidesz Mayor of Nyírmárton Village, Mihály Filemon won sixty million Hungarian forints in
EU Funding for the construction of a Canopy Walkway.
During construction, however, the entire forest was cut down so the fifty-meter-long wooden structure built for the purpose of a walkway is now lying in the middle of nowhere.
According to the investigative portal, Filemon applied for the money in 2018 and then won the amount in 2021. According to the title deeds, the plot on which the walkway is located also belongs to Filemon.
According to the public procurement notice the investment under the heading "Development of The Functions of Forest Ecosystems" is ready and the contractor was a company from Nyíregyháza, HC International KFT.
