Christmas services were finally held in Ukraine, a day before the ascension of the Cathedral in Kyiv, Pechersk Lavra for the first time in 338 years.
Members of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine prayed in the Lavra. Until recently, it was not clear whether the Orthodox Church would have time to obtain all the necessary permits to hold the service.
More than three thousand law enforcement officers were brought to the streets to prevent possible provocations. Despite everything, the historic Christmas service in the Lavra took place for the first time after 338 years.
