France Successfully Beat Australia 4-1 at World Cup

24 November 2022 00:31

France showed it can cope without its star striker at the World Cup. Kylian Mbappe scored one and set up the second of Olivier Giroud's two goals to help the defending champions beat Australia 4-1.

France got the defense of their title against Australia in Group D on Tuesday (22/11/2022), minus the injured Karim Benzema. Craig Goodwin gave Australia the lead when he turned in winger Mathew Leckie’s cross in the ninth minute. However "Les Blues" fought back and found the equalizer through Adrien Rabiot's header on the half-hour mark.

Minutes later striker Olivier Giroud scored his 50th international goal to make it 2-1 to France heading into the break. After the restart, Kylian Mbappe made it 3-1 with a header from an Ousmane Dembele assist. Giroud then added his second of the night in the 71st minute, to equal Thierry Henry's record as France's all-time top scorer.

French fans leaving the Al Janoub Stadium in Doha chanted and waved flags as they celebrated the opening victory 4-1 over "The Socceroos" Australia.
