Dozens of Israeli protesters gathered on Thursday in Jerusalem, to show their support for Iranian protesters standing up to their leadership over the death of a young woman in police custody. During the protest, an Israeli woman of Iranian origin cut her hair in solidarity with Iranian women.
The Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, fleur Hassan Nahoum says, the protest aims to show their solidarity to Iran dan to tell them that people in Iran have sisters and brothers in Jerusalem that believe in them.
Thousands of Iranians have taken to the streets over the last weeks, to protest the death of a 22 years old woman, Mahsa Amini. Amini was detained in September by the morality police, who said she didn't properly cover her hair with the mandatory Islamic headscarf, known as the hijab.
Three days later she died after being collapsed at a police station, and her death set off protests in dozens of cities across the country, and the government has responded with a fierce crackdown.
Israel and Iran are officially freezing their relationship.
