Indonesia's Premier Soccer League Liga 1 restarted Monday after a pause due to the Kanjuruhan stadium stampede incident which killed 134 people on October 1st. As a result Liga 1 matches will now play without spectators.
Permits for the rest of the competitions of Liga 1 2022/2023 session has been issued by police and one of the conditions to prevent another Kanjuruhan stampede from happening is to have no spectators.
Three matches will be held today in two locations in Bantul, Yogyakarta where PSM Makassar will face Persikabo Bojonegoro and in Manahan Stadium in Solo, Central Java where two games Madura United against PSIS Semarang and Pesita Versus Bali United are to be held.
The Kanjuruhan deadly stampede occured after a match between Arema FC and Persibaya Surabaya with Persebaya winning. Fans of host club Arema FC were dissapointed with the result and wanted to meet the players and inquire about it when a chaotic situation began and police released tear gas toward the crowd of spectators causing a panic and the stampede.
Meanwhile, supporters of Arema FC popular as Aremania continued to fight for a complete investigation of the Kanjuruhan incident and called authorities to bring the case to court. They said Liga 1 should be postponed and could only be restarted when investigation of the kanjuruhan tragedy is completed.
Aremania said they would continue the fight for justice for the victims and victim's families of the kanjuruhan tragedy.
