Heavy Seasonal Rains Continue to Pound Thailand

Thousands of villages in Thailand were affected by the widespread flooding, caused by heavy seasonal rains that continue to pound much of the country. According to the department of disaster prevention and mitigation on Sunday (9/10/2022), almost twenty thousand people have been moved into eighty five temporary shelters with floodwaters overwhelming more than a thousand villages in the Province of Ubon Ratchathani.

Almost one hundred thirty thousand households are currently affected in twenty five provinces nationwide. Authorities warned that Bangkok and other provinces along the Chao Phraya River, could face severe threats as the volume of water flowing from upstream was more than can be contained in the river and dams.

Officials say a number of the country's major dams are over capacity and many more are approaching the critical level. To control the overflow authorities are forced to release water normally into rivers which raises their levels.
