Rising Sea Level Threathening Java Island

5 November 2022 03:40

Rising sea levels caused by climate change are flooding homes on the coast of Central Java, Indonesia. The locals were forced to leave their village. They live a new life elsewhere.

The impact of climate change is felt by the people in Timbulsloko, Central Java. Many houses were elevated with cement in an attempt to keep the occupants dry. Others are only accessible at low tide/trapping people inside for hours.

Many villagers have left the area as climate migrants seeking a new life in places higher above sea level.
