Malaysia's king, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah arrived in Turkiye on Tuesday (16/8/2022) on a week-long state visit which became the first visit by a Malaysian head of state in nearly 30 years. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan greeted the king at the Turkish Presidential Palace in Ankara after he was escorted to its gates by a Turkish Mounted Colour Guard.

Erdogan was scheduled to host a banquet in honor of the king and queen who were expected to travel to Istanbul on Wednesday (17/8/2022). A statement from Turkiye's directorate of communications said the visit was the first from Malaysia at the head of the state level after nearly 30 years and will crown our bilateral relations. The king had been scheduled to visit Turkiye last year but the trip was postponed due to the pandemic.
