Tibetan Activist Detained Near Chinese Embassy in New Delhi

2 March 2023 01:30

Around a dozen Tibetan exiles protesting The Chinese foreign minister's visit to India were detained outside the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi on Wednesday, (1/3/2023).

A small group of protesters from the Tibetan youth congress carrying Tibetan flags and shouting slogans such as "Free Tibet" and "Go Back Qin Gang" tried to enter the high-security complex. But the protesters were confronted by authorities and bundled into a police bus before it drove away.

Their protest comes as Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang arrived in India this week for the G20 foreign ministers meeting. China claims Tibet has always been part of its territory but many Tibetans say the Himalayan region was virtually independent for centuries until Chinese troops invaded in the 1950s.
