Sydney is preparing to be one of the first cities to kick off the new year celebrations. Preparations have been underway for months and will focus on ancestral traditions and hopes for the future.
After three years of Covid-19 tainted, reduced or non-existent end of the year festivities it's back to "business as usual" for Sydney. This year, the evening and midnight events will focus on a traditional indigenous welcome to country and world pride which will be held in Sydney in February and March.
For many Australians, the end of this year is an opportunity to reflect on the difficult times they just went through while also looking towards a more hopeful immediate future.
