Indonesian Communications and Informatics Ministry has blocked seven tech companies operating in indonesia after failing to register to the national resgistration system (PSE). The registration deadline was on july 20th. However, blocking was imposed starting last weekend.

According to Communications and Informatics Minister, Johny G Plate due to some considerations incuding the interests of the people of indonesia, the ministry reactivated access for two electronic system operators Paypal and Steam.

The mandatory registration underIndonesia's new licensing rules is an implementation of a ministerial regulation issued last year  about privacy scope of electronic system. The new licensing rules require tech companies to register into the private electronic system operators list (PSE),  so the government can ensure platforms disclose certain user data and ensure they remove unlawful content or content that disturbs public order,  within four hours to 24 hours.

The new rule is also to ensure that companies are able to provide services in the indonesian language.
