UK Boxing Day Sales 2022

There were fewer shoppers than usual at the normally bustling UK boxing day sales despite large discounts on offer. Footfall was down by nearly a third across all UK retail destinations on Monday (26/12/2022) compared to pre-pandemic levels with worries about the cost of the living crisis on many people's minds.

Recent rail strikes were also thought to have put people off coming to the shops. Still, on Monday, turnout was up by half compared to last year which retailers should see as an encouraging sign.

But the festive shopping season is crunch time for the retail sector and businesses know there may be similarly quiet days ahead as shoppers continue to tighten their belts.
