Havana's Cigar Fair Kicks Off with High Hopes

2 March 2023 02:08

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel opened a cigar festival in Havana earlier this week on Monday amid optimism from industry executives about a boost in sales.

The annual event aims to attract investments and cigar lovers to the market. It wasn't held for the last two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A Co-President of Habanos s.a. said it was special that the event has returned. The local cigar industry has also been hampered by Hurricane Ian which last year destroyed many crops on the island nation. The industry was worth USD345 million in 2022.
