Lionel Messi Crowned Best Men's Player of 2022 at FIFA's The Best Awards

Argentina and Paris St Germain forward Lionel Messi has been named men's player of the year at the 2022 best FIFA awards. The 35-year-old beat French forwards Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema to the prize.

Lionel Messi has been crowned the best FIFA men's player in 2022. The Argentina superstar has been bestowed with the honor following a landmark year in which he inspired his nation to the world cup. Messi captained Argentina to world cup glory in Qatar and scored 27 goals in 49 games for the club and country in 2021-2022.

meanwhile, Barcelona's Alexia Puteyas was named women's player of the year after captaining Barcelona to a dramatic treble and a place in UEFA Women's Champions League Final. Puteyas topped the vote ahead of finalist Beth Mead and Alex Morgan.

At the ceremony in Paris, Lionel Scaloni who led Argentina to their third world cup title was named men's coach of the year. Scaloni having finished ahead of finalists Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola in the voting.

England manager Sarina Wiegman was named women's coach of the year after guiding the lionesses to European championship glory on home soil last year the team's first major trophy.
