Russian state television on Wednesday reported that several regions in the country have been experiencing extreme cold weather and snow.
In Magadan region in country's far east, the temperature dropped and reached minus sixty degrees Celsius, while the average for January is higher than minus twenty degrees Celcius.
People in the regions were seen wearing thick coats and hats to fight off the cold and roads and parks were blanketed in snow.
In the Siberian City of Novosibirsk, school classes have been canceled while authorities in the Kemerovo region declared a high alert, as communal services failed to clear away ice and snow.
In the meantime officials in charge of electrical distribution networks in UFA said contingency measures were in place to deal with the frigid temperatures to ensure supplies to customers.
