Playing at Tokyo's number one seed, Spanish Paula Badosa was knocked out of the Japan Open, following a straight-sets defeat to Zheng Qinwen on Wednesday.
The unseeded Zheng then secured an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win and next faces either Elise Mertens or Claire Liu for a place in the semi-finals.
