Korean Peninsula Denuclearization

United Nations and South Korean leaders agree to denuclearized the Korean Peninsula in the midst of growing tensions in the region.

United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres had separate meetings with both South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin during a visit to Seoul on Friday. 

During the meeting with President Yoon, Guterres reiterated the United Nations' commitment to seeing a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.

Guterres  said he would like to reaffirm clear commitment to the full verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and North Korea.

He felt the removal of nuclear weapons would bring peace, security, and stability to the whole region.

The top United Nations official is visiting south korea for a two-day trip.
