Government Injects IDR20 Trillion into BPJS Kesehatan

Jakarta: The government has approved an additional fund allocation of IDR20 trillion for the Social Security Agency for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) this year.

This additional budget is set to be disbursed in stages during October and November 2026 to ensure the smooth payment of claims to healthcare facilities.

This crucial decision was reached following a limited meeting regarding BPJS Kesehatan services and the strengthening of the National Health Insurance (JKN) financial program at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, September 28, 2026.

Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara confirmed that these additional funds are already available within the 2026 State Budget (APBN).

According to Suahasil, this financial boost is separate from the routine budget the government has been providing to subsidize the underprivileged.

"There is an additional fund injection of IDR20 trillion for health insurance. This is on top of the budget used to cover the 96.8 million Contribution Assistance Recipients (PBI). That budget is approximately IDR47 trillion, while the additional IDR 20 trillion will be disbursed soon to support BPJS's finances this October," explained Suahasil, as cited by Headline News Metro TV, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

This fresh capital injection serves as a solution to the cash flow mismatch currently being experienced by BPJS Kesehatan.

Reports indicate that the total participant contributions collected to date amount to only IDR118 trillion. This figure is insufficient to cover the total cost of healthcare benefits distributed to hospitals, which stands at IDR132 trillion.
