Jakarta: Indonesia plans to launch a National Command Center for its Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program in mid-May 2026 to strengthen coordination and improve food service quality nationwide, an official said.
Deputy for Food Affordability and Security Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, Nani Hendiarti, said the facility will oversee MBG implementation across Indonesia and enhance synergy between central and regional governments and stakeholders.
"So, the command center for the nationwide MBG program will be based at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, and God willing, it will be launched around May 17," she said in Jakarta on Sunday, quoted from Antara, Monday 27 April 2026.
The initiative aims to improve governance, boost service standards, and ensure the program meets its intervention targets in 2026, with a stronger focus on quality and effectiveness, including better nutrition education and menu planning.
Nani said 1,789 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) were temporarily suspended as of April 24, down from about 3,000 earlier, mainly due to food poisoning incidents and inadequate hygiene facilities.
She added that some cases remain difficult to resolve and require consultation with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), the main organizer of the MBG program.
"Some SPPG may be difficult to fix. These need to be discussed with BGN, whether relocation or other solutions are necessary," she said.
The government is prioritizing governance improvements, service quality upgrades, expanded program coverage, and greater effectiveness in delivering nutritional benefits under the MBG program this year.
