Prabowo Inaugurates Newly Restored Semarang Tawang Station  

Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the newly restored Semarang Tawang Station in Central Java on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
 
“The restoration of Semarang Tawang Station is not merely about preserving a building; it is about safeguarding our national identity,” he said, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
 
PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the project was carried out in line with the president’s directives, with the company using historical photographs from the Dutch era as a reference for the restoration.
 
He noted that the project included work on the façade, the main hall, and the eastern and western sections, taking a total of 330 days to complete.
 
Reflecting on the site’s significance, Bobby said, “This station holds a special place in Indonesia’s heritage, having stood through the country’s struggle for independence. By preserving this 112-year-old building, we are protecting an important part of our historical legacy.”
 
The inauguration was attended by Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi.
 
In the first half of 2026 alone, Semarang Tawang Station served more than 2 million passengers, marking a 22 percent year-on-year increase.
