Jakarta Police Seize 25.2 kg of Meth Worth Rp30 Billion

Jakarta: Jakarta police seized 25.2 kilograms of methamphetamine worth an estimated Rp30 billion (USD1.68 million) in Depok, West Java, during a 2026 Nila Jaya drug operation, authorities said Monday.

Central Jakarta police chief Senior Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung said officers seized the drugs after pursuing a 47-year-old suspect, identified as S, who was carrying them on a motorcycle.

"The success demonstrates our personnel's vigilance in taking firm action against drug traffickers," Reynold said in an official statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

S was arrested by the Central Jakarta police's narcotics unit on the afternoon of Sept. 10, after officers had targeted him in an investigation, Reynold said.

He said police would continue pursuing people suspected of involvement in drug trafficking until the entire network had been uncovered.

"We will leave no room for dealers to damage young people in Central Jakarta and surrounding areas," he said.

Central Jakarta police narcotics chief Senior Commissioner Wisnu S. Kuncoro said the seizure followed a two-week investigation into the target's movements from Mangga Besar, Central Jakarta.

The suspect allegedly tried to evade officers by switching vehicles in Sawangan, Depok, Wisnu said.

"Because he appeared suspicious, the suspect then accelerated at high speed, triggering a chase," Wisnu said.

After officers stopped him, they searched the Yamaha NMAX motorcycle he was riding and found 25 black plastic packages containing 25,236.4 grams, or about 25.2 kilograms, of methamphetamine.

During preliminary questioning, S said he acted only as an intermediary and had been ordered by another person, also identified as S, to deliver the meth to Grogol, West Jakarta.

Police are investigating to identify the person who allegedly ordered the suspect to deliver the drugs.

The suspect faces charges under Article 114(2) of the 2009 Narcotics Law and/or Article 609(2)(a) of the 2023 Criminal Code, as amended by the 2026 Criminal Penalties Adjustment Law.

The offenses carry a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment, according to police.

"We urge the public to report any suspected drug trafficking to us without hesitation. We will keep informants' identities confidential," Wisnu said.
