Jakarta: The robotics team from SMAK 4 Penabur has secured a bronze medal at The World GreenMech Robotics Competition 2025, held at Providence University, Taichung, Taiwan, on Wednesday, August 7, 2025.

The STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) competition featured 387 teams with a total of 1,258 students from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools across 10 countries. Representing Indonesia, the SMAK 4 Penabur team comprised Samuel Nathan Hendrajaya, Max Lucky Hau, Daren Hope, and Kezia Sales Rossi Sitorus.

“Proud and satisfied with this achievement,” Samuel said after the competition.

Their journey to the international stage began at the GreenMech and R4M Regional Competition at Bina Nusantara (Binus) University Alam Sutera, Tangerang, on February 1, 2025, where they earned an honorable mention and advanced to the national level at Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar), Bandung, on April 26–27, 2025.

Defeating 150 teams from 10 provinces, they once again won bronze, qualifying for Taiwan alongside three other Indonesian teams. “Preparation for the Taiwan competition took longer, about two months,” Samuel explained.

He expressed gratitude for the school’s full support, including coaches, equipment, materials, training facilities, and funding for accommodation and registration.

SMAK 4 Penabur Principal Boanerges Tiberias credited the team’s success to the school’s application of Deep Learning in education.

“Deep Learning is important to help students think critically, solve contextual problems, and connect lessons with real-world situations,” Boanerges said.

The approach is implemented through Problem-Based Learning, Project-Based and Inquiry Learning, bilingual classes with native teachers, and communication skills programs focusing on public speaking, personal branding, and campaigning.

The school also fosters student interests through extracurricular activities such as coding, robotics, sports, science clubs, and English debate.

Samuel, who aspires to study biotechnology, shared a message for Indonesian students: “Believe that with great effort, your dreams will come true. Keep fighting and never give up.”

This latest achievement adds to SMAK 4 Penabur’s list of accolades, which includes its girls’ basketball team winning multiple tournaments and the school choir earning gold at the Penabur International Choir Festival 2024.
