Pestapora, The Weeknd Generate USD13.8 Million for Jakarta's Economy

Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo revealed several music concerts held in the capital city last weekend, from Pestapora to The Weeknd, have generated an economic impact of nearly USD13.8 million (Rp250 billion).

Pramono said the development reflects Jakarta's growing recognition as a global city.

"I received reports that the two-day Pestapora music festival and the Canadian singer, The Weeknd, concerts generated nearly Rp250 billion in economic activity in Jakarta," Pramono said in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted from Antara.

The international-scale music events also demonstrate Jakarta's growing trust as a venue for major performances. He also outlined results of his meeting with New York University during his visit to New York.

Wibowo explained the university expressed its appreciation for Jakarta's development as a global city, including in terms of organising music performances.

"They know that the US rapper Ye will also be coming to Jakarta, also The Weeknd, who just performed last weekend. Westlife is also coming, along with Andrea Bocelli," he said.

According to him, the decision by several international musicians to perform in Jakarta demonstrates growing confidence in the capital's capacity to host major events.

Wibowo informed Ye's only performance in Southeast Asia will be held in Jakarta on October 24, 2026. Westlife is also scheduled to perform in the capital city on January 23, 2027.

Furthermore, concerts and music festivals can generate economic benefits across various sectors, Pramono added, ranging from event management to increased mobility and spending among visitors in Jakarta.

The governor noted the increase in international events is in line with efforts to establish Jakarta as a global city.

"And they have shown their appreciation, demonstrating that Jakarta is truly a global city that now enjoys public trust," he remarked.

The Weeknd's After Hours Til Dawn Tour in Jakarta took place over two days, September 26 and 27, at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). The show was part of The Weeknd's Asia Tour.

Meanwhile, music festival Pestapora 2026 was held on September 25-27 at Gambir Expo and Hall D2 JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, featuring a total of 330 performers from various genres across 19 performance areas.
