Jakarta: Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representative (DPR) Budisatrio Djiwandono said that Indonesian ambassadors must serve according to President Prabowo Subianto's vision. Including, the Indonesian ambassador candidate to the United States (US) who is currently being discussed.
"I think they must be able to carry out the duties and functions of a state representative, wherever they will serve, according to the visions of the President of the Republic of Indonesia," said Budi at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, July 3, 2025.
Budi said that the ambassadors must be able to translate Indonesia's foreign policy. In addition, Commission I will deepen the ambassador candidates, including their experience in the destination countries.
"But I also think that the capacity of the ambassador candidates, their respective abilities individually and perhaps their experience in the destination countries will also be important considerations for us," said Budi.
The DPR has officially received a presidential letter (surpres) requesting an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia (Dubes LBBP RI). This was conveyed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, during the 22nd Plenary Session of the House of Representatives for Session Period IV of the 2024-2025 Session Year.
Puan said that in accordance with the provisions of Article 231 of the DPR RI Regulation Number 1 of 2020 concerning the rules of procedure, the names of prospective ambassadors and recipient countries are kept confidential. In addition, the discussion meeting at Commission I of the DPR, including the results, will be carried out confidentially.
