Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto, through the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Tito Karnavian, has ordered an audit of hospitals in Papua Province. This is in response to the case of Irene Sokoy, a young mother from Hobong Village, Jayapura Regency, who died along with her unborn baby after being rejected by several hospitals.
"His order is to immediately conduct audit improvements. Conduct an internal audit to determine where the problem lies. We will gather together the hospitals, including officials from the Health Office and others, both provincial, district, and private hospitals," Tito said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara, Monday, November 24, 2025.
Tito said that his office has also asked the Governor of Papua, Mathius Derek Fakhiri, to visit the victim's home and provide assistance.
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and a team from the Ministry of Home Affairs are already in Jayapura to conduct an immediate hospital audit. Tito explained that the audit conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs will cover existing regulations, including regional head regulations.
"The Regent's Regulation involves the Jayapura Regency Hospital, and also the Governor's Regulation, because the latter is a provincial general hospital called the RSUD," Tito said.
Based on information gathered, the Yowari Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, confirmed that it has treated patients according to applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This statement was issued following public attention regarding the death of Irene Sokoy.
The Director of Yowari Hospital, Drg. Maryen Braweri, stated that her office has coordinated with the Papua Provincial Health Office. As a result, the team will conduct an investigation into this case.
