Jakarta: Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said that Indonesia had blocked over 3 million websites linked to online gambling.
“We have taken down more than 3 million online gambling websites dating back to October 20, 2024,” she said at the OJK Banking Forum as quoted by Media Indonesia on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Meutya commended the public’s effort, which has led to reports of more than 156,000 bank accounts and 85,000 mobile phone numbers tied to online gambling and scams.
“The public has been of tremendous help in our efforts to combat online gambling. We have received hundreds of thousands of cekrekening reports,” she said.
Meutya stressed, however, that eradicating online gambling would require more than blocking websites and phone numbers; authorities must also “sever the neck” of the online gambling ecosystem.
“We must work together with our colleagues in the banking sector to shut down the bank accounts used to facilitate online gambling,” she said.
