Jakarta: The Indonesian government is closely monitoring 58,873 umrah pilgrims currently in Saudi Arabia following escalating security tensions in the Middle East that have disrupted flight schedules, an official said on Sunday.
Director General of Hajj and Umrah Implementation Puji Raharjo said authorities are tracking developments and urged pilgrims to remain calm while maintaining communication with their registered travel organizers.
“We advise all umrah pilgrims not to panic. Stay calm and maintain communication with your travel organizers for official and up-to-date information,” Puji said in a statement, quoted from Antara, Monday 2 March 2026.
Several airlines have adjusted flight routes and delayed schedules as a precaution amid rising regional tensions, potentially affecting pilgrims currently in Saudi Arabia as well as those in Indonesia awaiting departure.
Puji also called on travel organizers to coordinate closely with the Indonesian Hajj Office (KUH), the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, and the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh to ensure swift responses to any developments.
“The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah continues coordinating with domestic and Saudi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Indonesian umrah pilgrims remain our top priority,” he said.
The government reiterated its commitment to protecting pilgrims and ensuring that any policy adjustments prioritize safety and comfort.
Families in Indonesia were urged to remain calm, avoid unverified information, and rely solely on official updates from authorized travel organizers.
Tensions escalated following reports of joint US-Israeli military action targeting Iran early Saturday, followed by retaliatory strikes that raised security concerns across parts of the region.
