Jakarta: Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed on Monday that 57 victims of the landslide in Cisarua Sub-district, West Bandung, West Java, have been positively identified, with all bodies handed over to their families.

BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center head Abdul Muhari said the identification process was conducted using antemortem and postmortem data collected by the National Police’s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team since the first day of the evacuation.

Based on preliminary data, as of Sunday at 4 p.m., the joint search and rescue (SAR) team had transferred 74 body bags to the DVI team. Of that number, 17 bodies remain under forensic examination and identification.

“The dentification process was carried out meticulously to ensure accuracy before the victims were returned to their families,” said Muhari, as quoted from Antara, Monday 2 February 2026.

He added that inter-agency coordination involving the police, BNPB, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), local governments, and referral hospitals remains ongoing to expedite victim handling and recovery efforts.

According to the latest data, 517 evacuees have returned to their homes, while 159 people are still staying at evacuation shelters.

Muhari said SAR operations resumed on Monday, with teams expanding the search area and deploying at least 18 units of heavy equipment to locate six people who are still reported missing.

He noted that light to moderate rainfall continues to hamper operations in the field.

The landslide, triggered by extreme rainfall, struck Cisarua in West Bandung early on January 24, burying dozens of houses and killing at least 80 residents.
