Tito Coordinates with Regional Governments to Prepare Sekolah Rakyat Sites

Jakarta: Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian will coordinate with regional governments to prepare sites for Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) projects across Indonesia, following President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.
 
The program aims to expand access to education for underprivileged children, as mandated by Indonesia’s 1945 Constitution.
 
“The children attending these schools will be selected from the first and second deciles –,representing the poorest 20 percent of the population,– to ensure they have access to proper and quality education,” Tito said during the inauguration of a Sekolah Rakyat project in Biak Numfor, Papua, on August 1, 2026.
 
He added that the schools would be built with a standardized design nationwide, equipped with dormitories, classrooms, staff rooms, and sports facilities.
 
During the event, Tito, accompanied by his wife and Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) Chairperson Tri Suswati Tito Karnavian, also distributed 45 food packages and 88 reusable water bottles (tumblers) to students.
 
Tri encouraged students to use the tumblers to reduce reliance on single-use plastic bottles. She also planted trees with them as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability.
