5,000 Village Suspension Bridges Slated for Completion by End of 2026

Jakarta: The government aims to complete the construction of 5,000 village suspension bridges by the end of 2026, as part of efforts to improve connectivity for rural communities.
 
“In many areas that have been separated by rivers for decades, the presence of a bridge can be transformative,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
 
The construction project is being carried out by the government, the Indonesian Army (TNI AD), and local communities.
 
“As of July 2026, we have built 1,000 village bridges,” President Prabowo Subianto said during a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Monday, July 20, 2026.
 
Teddy added that the government aimed to complete 2,500 bridges by August 2026.
 
During the meeting, the President also called on the Head of the Task Force for Accelerated Bridge Repair, Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Maruli Simanjuntak, to ensure the timely completion of the project.
 
In response, General Maruli Simanjuntak reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to completing the project as scheduled.
