Three Killed in Shooting of Agricultural Agency Group in Papua Highlands

Papua: A group of employees from the Jayawijaya Agriculture Agency in Papua Highlands was attacked and shot by unidentified assailants while distributing livestock seed assistance in Kimbim Village, Asologaima District. Three people were reportedly killed at the scene in the shooting.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday afternoon September 9, 2026, when the group was on its way to Kimbim Village to deliver livestock seed assistance to the community. Along the way, the group was suddenly attacked by an unidentified group.
The eight survivors fled the scene and sought help from the Lanny Jaya Police Chief, First Inspector Hendrik Seru, who happened to be passing through Mulyama Village on his way to Wamena to conduct a Sambang Kamtibmas Presisi activity.
After receiving the report, officers immediately headed to the location to secure the area and evacuate all the victims to Wamena Regional General Hospital.
“When passing through the area, we were stopped by eight survivors of the shooting involving the Jayawijaya Agriculture Agency group. The shooting resulted in three people being killed,” Papua Police Public Relations Head Senior Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito said, as quoted from Selamat Pagi Indonesia on Metro TV on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The three victims who died consisted of two women and one man. They were identified as the Head of the Livestock Division at the Jayawijaya Agriculture Agency, a veterinarian, and an Agriculture Agency employee.
The three bodies are currently at Wamena Regional General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the eight survivors are still being questioned by investigators from the Jayawijaya Police. The questioning is being conducted to establish the full chronology of the attack, identify the perpetrators, and determine the motive behind the shooting.
