Jakarta: Indonesian Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait met with China’s Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong to discuss cooperation on the development of housing for low and middle-income communities.
The plan comes as Indonesia seeks to address its housing backlog, with expanding home ownership remaining a top priority for the Prabowo administration.
“We exchanged views on land, financing, and technology. We agreed to hold follow-up discussions. Our focus will be on housing for low-income communities,” Maruarar Sirait said during a broadcast of Metro TV’s Prioritas Indonesia program on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
To support the project, the Indonesian government is prepared to provide land for the development.
Maruarar added that they would prioritize the use of locally produced construction materials and involve Indonesian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the supply chain.
