Washington: Highlighting the situation in Palestine, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono affirmed his stance against the plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza proposed by the United States (US) and Israel.

When meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, April 16, 2025, Sugiono voiced Indonesia's rejection of the plan.

"Indonesia rejects the relocation of Palestinians in Gaza from their homeland," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, quoted from the Kemlu.go.id website, Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Regarding Palestine, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted President Prabowo's active role in encouraging the peace process in Palestine, as reflected in President Prabowo's visits to several countries, such as Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE and Turkey.

"The Indonesian government is also ready to temporarily evacuate around 1,000 injured Palestinians in the Gaza Strip for treatment in Indonesia. After that, they will be withdrawn back to Gaza," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono.

Meanwhile, Secretary Rubio also highlighted the issue of Iran during the meeting. US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that Secretary Rubio highlighted the importance of the maximum pressure campaign on the Iranian regime to limit the flow of revenues it uses to finance alleged terrorism, ballistic missile production, and other destabilizing activities.

Minister Sugiono is the first foreign minister from ASEAN countries to be received by the US Secretary of State in Washington D.C. The meeting also discussed the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the Trump Administration on Indonesia.
