Kuala Lumpur: At the ASEAN–New Zealand Commemorative Summit marking 50 years of partnership between the two countries, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono conveyed Indonesia's position on behalf of President Prabowo Subianto.
Foreign Minister Sugiono outlined the foundation of the long-standing relationship between ASEAN and New Zealand, built on trust and shared values, and appreciated New Zealand's consistent support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining a forward-looking and resilient partnership, particularly amidst the ever-evolving regional and global dynamics.
Indonesia also reaffirmed its commitment to the ASEAN–Australia–New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) and encouraged the accelerated ratification of the newly agreed amendment protocol.
Foreign Minister Sugiono also highlighted new opportunities in developing a blue economy, including in sustainable fisheries and marine-based renewable energy, as well as the importance of strengthening regional cooperation with the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).
Indonesia welcomes the adoption of the Joint Vision Statement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which provides momentum to strengthen cooperation across four key pillars: peace, prosperity, people, and planet.
"Through an ever-strengthening partnership, ASEAN and New Zealand can work together to shape a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region for future generations," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
