DPR Approves Destry as BI Governor and Aida as Senior Deputy Governor

Jakarta: Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR), through an internal meeting in Jakarta in Thursday evening, approved Destry Damayanti as the elected Governor of the Bank of Indonesia (BI) and Aida S. Budiman as the elected Senior Deputy Governor (DGS) for the 2026-2031 term.
Thus, Destry replaced Perry Warjiyo, who resigned from the position of BI Governor on 25th July 2026. While, Destry's previous position as Senior Deputy Governor was replaced by Aida S. Budiman.
"The process of replacing the Governor, Senior Deputy Governor, and Deputy Governor has been carried out. And we have completed duties in the commission level, " said the Chairman of Commission XI of DPR Mukhamad Misbakhun at the Parliament Complex, as reported by Antara, Thursday, 27th August 2026.
With the approval of the elected BI Governor and BI Senior Deputy Governor, Commission XI of DPR also approved Solikin M. Juhro as the elected BI Deputy Governor for the 2026-2031 term.
Misbakhun said Commission XI will process the decision of the Internal Meeting for presentation and determination at the DPR plenary session on 1st September 2026.
"We chose through consensus decision-making, and later we will schedule them to be determined at the Plenary Session on Tuesday, 1st September," said Misbakhun.
Fit and Proper Test for BI Leaders
Commission XI of DPR has held a fit and proper test for two days in a row. On Wednesday, 26th August 2026, a fit-and-proper test was held for the candidate of BI Governor, Destry Damayanti, and the candidate of Senior Deputy Governor, Aida S. Budiman. Both Destry and Aida were the sole candidates in their own positions based on a Presidential Letter (supres) to the DPR.Next on Thursday, 27th August 2026, the fit test was continued to elect BI Deputy Governor between two candidates that nominated by the Government to the DPR. They were Solikin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori.
It should be known that currently M. Junho has been the Head of the Macroprudential Policy Department of BI since 16th June 2023.
Solikin has held several key executive roles, such as Head of the Monetary and Economic Policy Department (2022-2023), Head of the BI Institute (2018-2022), and Acting Head of the BI Institute Department (2016-2018).
