Jakarta: The Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Protection Agency (BPBD) are presenting the Indonesian Pavilion in Brazil. The facility was established as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and strategic partnerships during the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) in Belem, Brazil, from November 10-21, 2025.

The pavilion is supported by Astra, as part of the company's commitment to strengthening Indonesia's contribution to the global sustainability agenda. This year, the Indonesian Pavilion carries the theme "Accelerating Substantial Actions of Net Zero Achievement through Indonesia's High Integrity Carbon," showcasing Indonesia's concrete steps to reduce emissions while opening up opportunities for international partnerships.

The pavilion features more than 50 discussion sessions, including ministerial-level dialogues, CEO Talks, and a Seller Meet Buyer forum that brings together stakeholders in carbon trading.

During the CEO Talks session on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Dr. Bandung Sahari, Director of Sustainability at PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, outlined several Astra Agro sustainability innovations, ranging from machine learning-based plantation digitalization, the implementation of peatland rewetting, and the use of palm oil mill effluent (POME) as a renewable energy source.

Astra's President Director, Djony Bunarto Tjondro, emphasized Astra's commitment to supporting Indonesia's contribution to the global sustainability ecosystem.

"Support for the Indonesian Pavilion demonstrates Astra's commitment to strengthening Indonesia's involvement in the global sustainability ecosystem. Through technological innovation, nature-based solutions, and an increased renewable energy mix, Astra continues to take concrete steps that align with Indonesia's sustainability aspirations towards a low-emission future," said Djony Bunarto Tjondro in a statement received on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

In 2024, Astra achieved its Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations through a 17.41% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and 2 from the 2019 baseline, an increase in the renewable energy mix to 44%, a 98.92% solid waste recycling and recovery rate, and the implementation of community development programs that benefited 2.63 million beneficiaries.

Decarbonization efforts are implemented through various initiatives that have resulted in energy savings of 3,136.84 terajoules, utilization of 41,126 terajoules of renewable energy from solar PV, biomass, and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), and emission reductions through methane capture facilities in the agribusiness sector and the purchase of carbon credits from the Indonesian Carbon Exchange.

Solid waste management is strengthened through the implementation of a circular economy, including refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling throughout the Astra Group.

In addition, Astra runs the Astra Sustainable Forest program, collaborating with local farmers to restore forests through planting Suren (a type of palm tree), Rasamala (a type of tree), and productive commodities such as coffee and avocado. By 2024, this program had managed 2,491 hectares of land and planted 1.28 million trees to support community empowerment and reduce emissions.

To empower communities while contributing to climate change mitigation, Astra also has the Astra Sustainable Forest program. Through this program,

Astra, in collaboration with local farmers, restores forests by planting forest crops such as Suren and Rasamala, as well as other productive commodities like coffee and avocado. By 2024, 2,491 hectares of managed areas have been managed and 1.28 million trees planted to empower communities and reduce emissions for the planet.
