Jakarta: Starting in 2026, the Indonesian government will implement a social security program aimed at providing protection for online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) and couriers. The initiative will cover work accident insurance (JKK), death insurance (JKM), and educational scholarships for their children.
Minister of Manpower Yassierli announced that a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) is being finalized to ensure protection guarantees for online driver-partners across the country.
“This regulation will strengthen the working relationship between companies and driver-partners while ensuring transparency and fairness,” Yassierli said.
The program targets around 731,000 online motorcycle taxi drivers and couriers. To ease the financial burden, the government will subsidize 50 percent of the JKK and JKM contribution fees. The total program budget is estimated at IDR 36 billion and will be managed by the Social Security Administration for Employment (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan).
Each beneficiary could receive up to IDR 42 million in benefits. According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, the coverage includes death benefits equivalent to 48 times wages, disability compensation of 56 times wages, and scholarships worth IDR 174 million for two children.
President Prabowo Subianto had previously announced the plan during a closed meeting with Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto and Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
The program underscores the government’s commitment to extending social protection to informal and gig economy workers across Indonesia.
