Jakarta: Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said on Monday that Indonesia is optimistic about achieving its 2026 target of absorbing four million tons of government rice reserves (CBP).
The target was agreed upon during the 2026 Unhusked Rice Absorption Meeting involving the state-run logistics agency Bulog and the National Food Agency (Bapanas).
“Today, we held a meeting with Bulog and the National Food Agency. We are targeting the absorption of unhusked rice in 2026 at four million tons in rice equivalent. This is Bulog’s target. We are working together, and God willing, it can be achieved,” Sulaiman said after the meeting, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
He stressed that meeting the target would require strong coordination among all stakeholders, including the central government, Bulog, and farmers, to ensure optimal rice production, absorption, and management.
Sulaiman added that achieving the four-million-ton target would mark a new milestone in national food security. The effort is supported by an expansion of planted areas in 2026, estimated at around 500,000 hectares more than in the previous year.
Meanwhile, Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said the agency has strengthened its procurement strategy to prioritize the absorption of four million tons of rice reserves, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to maintain national food self-sufficiency.
The 2026 target represents an increase from the 2025 realization of three million tons. In preparation, Bulog has conducted early planning through a National Working Meeting to evaluate its 2025 performance and formulate the 2026 work plan, held in Jakarta on January 11–12.
Ramdhani said Bulog will make maximum efforts to support sustainable food self-sufficiency through effective rice absorption, processing, and distribution nationwide.
