Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday appointed Army General Maruli Simanjuntak as deputy commander of Indonesia's Military (TNI) and head of the National Agency for Border Management and Remote Areas (BNPPDT).
Presidential Decree No. 105 TNI, covering the appointment and dismissal of the deputy commander and BNPPDT chief, was read by Presidential Military Secretary Maj. Gen. Wahyu Yudhayana during the ceremony.
Maruli’s swearing-in at the State Palace in Jakarta coincided with that of Gen. Tandyo Budi Revita, who replaced him as Army chief of staff under Presidential Decree No. 106 TNI.
Prabowo signed both decrees in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 14.
The ceremony began with the reading of the decrees, followed by Prabowo administering the oaths of office to the two generals.
As quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 15, 2026, they pledged allegiance to the Republic of Indonesia, founded on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution, and vowed to uphold the law, carry out their duties responsibly, and remain faithful to Sapta Marga and the Soldier’s Oath.
Prabowo pinned the new rank insignia on Maruli and then Tandyo. The two generals subsequently signed their appointment records, witnessed by Prabowo and TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto.
Prabowo, accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and other state officials, then congratulated the newly appointed officials.
Those attending the ceremony included Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Pratikno, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Coordinating Minister Sugiono, and Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.
