Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said on Monday that the city administration will tighten regulations on paddle court operating hours.

This particularly those located in residential neighborhoods, to prevent disturbances and protect residents’ daily routines.

“We will regulate the operating hours of paddle courts in densely populated areas,” Pramono said at City Hall, stressing that the sport should be conducted responsibly with consideration for surrounding communities, as quoted from Antara, Monday 23 February 2026.

He cited complaints from residents, including families with infants, whose sleep had reportedly been disrupted by late-night paddle matches. Pramono described the situation as unfair to local communities.

A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday February 24 to discuss citywide regulations governing paddle operations, including licensing requirements and noise control measures.

Concerns over paddle facilities near residential areas have surfaced in recent months, with residents reporting noise disturbances that affect their daily activities.

In one case, a paddle court operator in the Haji Nawi Raya area of Cilandak, South Jakarta, agreed to limit operating hours and install soundproofing after receiving complaints.

“We will upgrade our walls to ensure noise from the paddle court is contained and does not disturb the public,” said Fajar Ediputra, a representative of PT Kreasi Arena Indonesia, the operator of Fourthwall Padel.

During the installation of soundproofing, court operations were reduced during Ramadan, with hours limited from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to minimize disruption.

Fajar stated that the facility holds the necessary permits but acknowledged that noise remains an issue due to its proximity to residential zones, with sound levels reportedly reaching around 70 decibels.

He said the soundproofing project is expected to be completed within 35 days to address complaints and improve comfort for both residents and players.

Residents have reported the issue to authorities since November 2025, urging management to install soundproofing or suspend operations to reduce disturbances in the neighborhood.
