BRICS Holds Key Resources for a Green Century: Prabowo

Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto said the critical minerals and energy resources held by BRICS countries are key assets in building a green century amid climate change challenges.

In a statement at the open session of the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, on Sunday, Prabowo also highlighted Indonesia’s wealth of resources needed by the world.

"The BRICS countries are in similar position.Together we have significant critical mineral and energy sources. We have resources as the foundation of the green century," Prabowo said, as quoted from Antara, Monday, September 14, 2026.

He introduced Indonesia as home to critical mineral reserves, rare earth metals, new and renewable energy sources, advanced technology, and forests that are vital to the environment.

Therefore, Prabowo invited BRICS countries and their partners to see various disasters not only as isolated events, but related to climate resilience and national development.

"We must see the close relationship between climate change resilience and national development. Indonesia is not alone in facing the challenge, many BRICS members and Global South countries face the same related problems," he stated.

Furthermore, Prabowo called on BRICS countries to tackle challenges collectively by pooling their resources, production capacity, technological capabilities, and markets.

According to him, this step is in line with the theme of the 2026 BRICS Summit, "Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth", which prioritises resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability to realise inclusive global growth.

"By facing the challenges together, we also bring enormous amounts of resources, productive capacity, technological capabilities and markets," he stated.

Prabowo stressed that leveraging these combined potentials could position BRICS to make a tangible contribution to the world.

"Therefore, the first step is to recognise the value of our strength and utilise it to help each other," the president remarked.
