Jakarta: Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad is pushing for a non-war military operation option in response to Indonesian citizen (WNI) and celebrity, AP, who was sentenced to seven years in prison by a Myanmar court. AP was accused of entering the region illegally and meeting with a banned armed group.
"We will push the government to issue a military operation option other than war. Military operations outside of war are guaranteed in the new TNI law," said Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, July 3, 2025.
Dasco said that option could be pushed if diplomacy related to protecting Indonesian citizens fails. Thus, diplomatic steps are still prioritized.
"Specifically for Myanmar, we push the government to continue to conduct diplomacy. For Indonesian citizens and all Indonesian people, that is in the TNI law," he said.
One of the influencers or social media influencers from Indonesia with the initials AP was reportedly detained by the Myanmar military junta. AP was accused of being involved in funding a Myanmar rebel group and sentenced to seven years in prison.
The detained Indonesian citizen is a 33-year-old social media influencer. Based on a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon in Myanmar, AP is currently being held in Insein Prison, Yangon, Myanmar.
