President Prabowo's Visit to Russia Signals Rising Global Profile for Indonesia

Jakarta: President Prabowo Subianto has launched a series of high-level state visits to Singapore and Russia, underscoring Indonesia’s growing diplomatic assertiveness and international recognition. The visits are part of a broader initiative to adapt to shifting global dynamics and reinforce Indonesia’s strategic role on the world stage.

According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, President Prabowo began his overseas agenda in Singapore, where he is set to meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and participate in the Singapore-Indonesia Leaders’ Retreat on June 16.

“Before departing for Russia, President Prabowo will first stop in Singapore to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss key regional issues,” Teddy said in a press statement on Sunday, June 15.

Following his engagements in Singapore, President Prabowo will travel to Russia at the personal invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. His official visit will include a ceremonial state welcome and a bilateral meeting with Putin on June 19.

“President Prabowo was directly invited by President Putin, signaling strong ties and mutual interest in deepening the Indonesia-Russia partnership,” Teddy explained.

The visit will culminate in President Prabowo delivering a keynote address at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 20. The forum, a major global platform, brings together top government officials, industry leaders, and economists from around the world.

“This visit is a strategic step in advancing Indonesia’s comprehensive cooperation with Russia. It also highlights Indonesia’s rising profile and relevance on the global stage, particularly in the face of mounting international challenges,” Teddy stated.
