Jakarta: German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived safely at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, on Monday, June 15, 2026.

President Steinmeier’s agenda during his visit to Indonesia will include a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, and a visit to the Jakarta Cathedral and Istiqlal Mosque.

President Prabowo Subianto asked German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to support the finalization of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA).

Indonesia and its European partners share a shared interest in expanding economic cooperation amid increasingly complex global challenges.

"We also hope that Germany will continue to play an active role in the process of finalizing internal agreements in Europe, so that it can immediately provide concrete benefits to businesses in both countries," said President Prabowo in a joint statement with German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Monday, June 15, 2026.

According to President Prabowo, the IEU-CEPA plays a crucial role in increasing trade and investment between Indonesia and European countries, including Germany. This aligns with the agreement between Indonesia and Germany to increase the volume of profitable trade and investment.

President Steinmeier landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at approximately 9:25 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), accompanied by the First Lady. He was greeted by Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and several other officials from the German Embassy in Indonesia.

The warm welcome was accompanied by a traditional Indonesian dance, and the firing of two cannons seven times in succession. Immediately after the formalities, President Steinmeier and his wife headed to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

The German Ambassador to Indonesia, Ralf Beste, stated that President Steinmeier's visit was carried through with the intention of strengthening bilateral cooperation, driven by Berlin’s strong desire to bolster long-term strategic partnerships with regionally influential developing countries, such as Indonesia.

Beste emphasized their commitment during a press conference at the German Embassy in Jakarta on Friday, June 12, 2026, saying "we are committed to being a long-term partner with Indonesia, and are ready to address future challenges together. The main message of this visit is clear: Germany is a strong and reliable partner for Indonesia."
