Foreign Minister Sugiono Arrives in New York to Represent Prabowo at UN General Assembly

New York: Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono arrived in New York, United States, on Monday, September 21, 2026, to lead the Indonesian delegation during the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

"Indonesia's presence at the UNGA serves as a moment to reaffirm its commitment to multilateralism, while simultaneously strengthening its role in fostering dialogue, bridging differences, and building common ground amidst various global challenges," stated the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Indonesia will continue to voice the interests of developing nations and contribute to world peace, including by reiterating its support for the Palestinian people's struggle and for efforts toward the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza," the statement added.

While in New York, Foreign Minister Sugiono will participate in various high-level and ministerial meetings addressing strategic global issues, including international peace and security, Palestine, development, climate change, and the strengthening of multilateralism.

On the sidelines of the UNGA, Foreign Minister Sugiono will hold a series of bilateral meetings with UN member states and partners to strengthen bilateral ties and address regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Indonesia will also utilize the momentum of this year's High-Level Week to launch its campaign for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2029–2030 term. This candidacy was previously announced by Foreign Minister Sugiono during the Annual Press Statement of the Foreign Minister in January 2026.

Foreign Minister Sugiono is scheduled to deliver Indonesia's National Statement during the General Debate of the 81st UNGA session on the evening of Saturday, September 26, 2026 (New York time).

The National Statement will outline Indonesia's views and positions regarding various global developments and challenges.

Indonesia's participation in the 81st UNGA reflects the nation's commitment to playing an active role in addressing various global challenges. Indonesia will continue to promote international dialogue and cooperation and make tangible contributions to global peace, stability, and prosperity.
