Former Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel Pass Away at 63  

Jakarta: Former Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel died in Jakarta at 3:20 a.m. WIB on Friday, July 10, 2026. He was 63.
 
News of his passing was confirmed by NasDem Central Executive Board (DPP) Chairman Willy Aditya. The cause of Gobel’s death has yet to be disclosed.
 
Gobel was a prominent businessman and politician. He was best known as the President Commissioner of the Gobel Group and served as Indonesia’s Minister of Trade from 2014 to 2015.
 
He also served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) from 2019 to 2024 and remained a member of the chamber until his untimely death, representing the NasDem Party in Gorontalo.
 
His body was laid in state at a funeral home on Jalan Supomo, South Jakarta, before being transported to Gorontalo for burial.
 
He is survived by his wife, Retno Damayanti, and their two children.
