Ambon: Australia’s Chargé d’Affaires to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, visited Ambon in Maluku Province from 23 to 25 April 2025.
In Ambon, Chargé d’Affaires Gita met with the Governor of Maluku, Hendrik Lewerissa, and the Mayor of Ambon, Dr Bodewin Wattimena.
She also hosted a dinner with the local Australian alumni community, and attended a ceremony to commemorate ANZAC Day, Australia’s National Day of Remembrance.
“This visit was my first opportunity to meet with local government and development partners in Ambon and to see first-hand the important role that one of Indonesia’s regions plays in the Australia-Indonesia partnership,” Chargé d’Affaires Gita said, as quoted from Australia Embassy Jakarta statement.
Charge d’Affaires Gita visited Rumah Generasi, a local NGO supported by the Australia-Indonesia Partnership Towards an Inclusive Society (INKLUSI), which works to support the development and implementation of gender and disability inclusive policies in Ambon.
Chargé d'Affaires Gita also opened the #AussieBanget University Roadshow at Pattimura University, together with Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fredy Leiwakabessy.
The Roadshow visited university campuses throughout Indonesia, featuring panel discussions with experts from Australia and Indonesia, presentations on Australia Awards scholarships and research partnerships, and information booths about Australia.
