Jakarta: Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir encouraged Indonesian diaspora across the globe to take an active role in national development by becoming intellectual-activists. He delivered this call in his remarks at the opening of the 2nd Global Diaspora Summit.
The event was officially opened on Tuesday (12/08) and convened until Wednesday (13/08) at the JS Luwansa Hotel, South Jakarta. Organized by the Indonesian Diaspora Network (IDN)-United, the forum serves as a strategic platform to strengthen the contribution of the Indonesian diaspora in supporting national development.
In the forum, the Vice Minister Tata expressed that Indonesian diaspora has vast potentials that can serve as the strategic strength of the nation, particularly in face of the current global challenges and dynamics.
He also emphasized three main roles of the diaspora: (1) as agents of change and development; (2) as ambassadors of the nation and friendship; (3) as agents of peace. The Vice Minister also urged the Indonesian diaspora to become intellectual-activists who think globally, act concretely, and inspire wherever they are.
“Let us step forward together, build the nation’s future, and achieve Golden Indonesia 2045,” said Vice Minister Tata, in a statement on the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Saturday, August 16, 2025.
Carrying the theme “Connecting Global Talent with Home”, the 2nd Global Diaspora Summit featured a series of activities including discussions, networking, and cross-sector collaboration. Plenary and parallel sessions were joined by speakers from among policymakers, technology experts, industry leaders, and prominent diaspora figures. The event was attended by around 250 Indonesian diaspora members from various countries and backgrounds.
The 2nd Global Diaspora Summit is expected to produce concrete steps to strengthen collaboration across generations and sectors, ensuring that the diaspora’s contribution becomes increasingly tangible for Indonesia’s advancement. The Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Director for Public Diplomacy were also present at the opening session.
